Before working with a community, the REWX team want to know two important things about that community:

  • Average Income: Is it below the poverty line (by that country’s official definition)? We hunt down low-income communities where few people are employed.
  • Passion: Are community leaders asking the REWX to get involved by their own initiative (i.e. do they want our help)? We want to work with people that want to work with us.

Information about “average income” and “passion” is gathered by surveys. The surveys are repeated once a year to track progress. Surveys are qualitative, meaning it is a survey of people’s opinions. But, do not fear: these opionion surveys only support the primary REWX measure.

Like profit for a normal company, the primary REWX measure for a community is a hard, quantitative measure: How much employment was created.

Unlike profit for a company, the REWX measure is very simple to calculate, and all transactions are publicly visible.

Summary: Which communities does the REWX work with? Low-income communities where surveys show that people are passionate about working with us. In these communities, we expect to see the REWX measure (i.e. people employed) grow every month. As employment grows, average income grows inside that community.
